Irish Nursery Rhyme CDs

The following three Irish language CDs for children are in constant rotation in our houses. Our children love them and the CDs are great for helping the kids develop their Irish language skills. Most primary schools in Ireland also play these CDs regularly:

1. Rabhlaí Rabhlaí (1998)
2. Gugalaí Gug (2005)
3. Peigín Leitir Móir (2008)

Each of these children's CDs contains at least 20 traditional nursery rhymes set to Irish music. They are also accompanied by beautifully illustrated books written in the Irish language. See below for album artwork and 30 second audio samples from these albums. We include a separate MP3 player for each CD. Click a song on the player to play it. Use the controls at the bottom of the player to adjust volume, pause a song or toggle between tracks. We also provide links to where these Irish Nursery Rhyme CDs can be purchased or ordered directly from their creators.

NOTE: Unfortunately our MP3 players do not allow for Irish language punctuation like a fada so the song entitled 'Peigín Leitir Móir' appears as 'Peigin Leitir Moir'. Hopefully it won't cause too much confusion!

Rabhlaí Rabhlaí is the brainchild of Roibeard Ó Cathasaigh and was developed jointly by Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick and Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne, Co. Kerry. It can be ordered directly from the college by mail or over the phone. Click here for Mary Immaculate College's website. The Irish on this children's CD is Munster Irish recorded in the Kerry Gaeltacht around Corca Dhuibhne. The great Australian musician Steve Cooney (who is now based in Kerry) produced this CD. It is a great way to introduce your children to the beauty of the Irish language.
